It’s Ok to Be Behind

So 2017 has been an extremely busy year for game releases already and it’s only April! On Playstation alone we’ve had Resident Evil 7, Nioh, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Nier: Automata, Mass Effect Andromeda and Persona 5 and those are just the big names. Even if you trade games in that’s a lot of money and time to stay up to date with everything. It can honestly become a job to play and beat one game before the next comes out. Cause what if you’re really into a game like Mass Effect and want to shoot for the platinum trophy but another big name game comes out the next week. Just keep playing Mass Effect and don’t worry about it!

I’ve always been one of those people that feels the need to play everything as it comes out so I can read/listen to spoilers and feel like I’m part of the conversation. This year I decided to take things low and slow and played the games I wanted as they came out. Cause I still haven’t played Horizon Zero Dawn or Nier and I’m perfectly ok with that. I’ve heard a ton of game of the year talk with Horizon so I will play it but I’m not in a hurry. It’s actually been nice to take my time and not feel that pressure of knowing I haven’t played something, or even guilt. Some games ,Ghost Recon and Persona, are very long and can take up to 100 hours to complete and if you’re buying new games without completing one of those games you can get lost in the story or even lose interest and not finish it. The new games coming out aren’t going anywhere, you can still get them later, and you can even wait until they go on sale cause PSN has flash sales all the time and you can snag it then.

I’ll go a step further and say you don’t have to play the new releases anywhere near their release date! You could get games as they go on sale and never pay more than $40 for a game if you want. At the time of this writing Diablo 3 is $30 on PSN and thats an amazing game for cheap! Or you could go for and HD collection of games you’ve been wanting to play. Like Kingdom Hearts 1.5 and 2.5 just came out on PS4 and it’s only $50 for timeless games and they look/run better then they ever have.

My point with all of this is don’t feel pressure to play every new release as it comes out and turn playing games into something frustrating. Do yourself a favor and take your time with the games that you want to play or go back and get some games you missed out on during sales. Don’t max out a credit card so you can keep up with game releases, food is an important thing that you need. But by all means, if you have the money and time and want to play all the games as they come out then go for it! Play how you want to, just don’t feel like you have to keep up to date to be a gamer cause you don’t!
